Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island provides acute short-term inpatient care when patients cannot be safely or effectively cared for in the home setting. General Inpatient Care (GIP) is provided by all members of the Hospice Team – the Medical Director, Registered Nurse, Nursing Assistant, Social Worker, Bereavement Specialist, Spiritual Coordinator and Volunteer. General Inpatient Care may be provided in the following situations:

  • Patients who are hospitalized and are too frail to be transferred to another setting for end-of life care.
  • Patients at home who have pain and symptom management issues that require short term acute inpatient management.
  • Patients who require Hospice Care while transitioning from the hospital to another setting.
General Inpatient Care is provided at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center or through contractual agreements with a hospital or skilled Nursing Home facility.
