Hospice focuses on caring and comfort, not cure. Most reimbursement sources require a prognosis of six months or less if the illness runs its normal course and for patients who are not seeking aggressive curative treatment.

Hospice Care is offered to adults, children and infants with a life-threatening illness such as cancer, Alzheimer's disease, AIDS, end-stage heart and lung disease, kidney disease, liver disease and neurological disorders such as Parkinson's and Lou Gehrig's disease.

Individuals who live beyond the six month prognosis continue to receive hospice care if approved by a physician.
