Helping people cope with the difficult times that follow a death is part of the mission of Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island and the purpose of the Bereavement Program.

Led by trained professionals, the Bereavement Support Program offers support and guidance for those left behind.

The loss of a loved one can be devastating. Feelings of guilt, denial, anger, isolation and confusion are normal and appropriate. Regaining a sense of renewed hope takes time and patience. The meetings help people adjust to their new lives while encouraging them to accept the grief, move through the pain and work toward healing.

The Bereavement Program:

  • Is open to anyone who has experienced a loss
  • Has counselors and volunteers who keep in touch through phone calls, notes, and personal visits
  • Provides group, individual and family counseling
  • Offers support services for up to a year (or longer if necessary)
  • Has support groups that run in six-week sessions throughout the year at various sites
  • Can suggest selected readings, tapes and videos to help one cope.

HHCRI offers bereavement support groups and message boards. Please see the links below.
