Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island Names Shan-Wei Ko Patient Care Services V.P.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island, the state’s leader in hospice and palliative care since 1976, has named Shan-Wei Ko, RN, MSN, GNP, vice president for patient care services. Ko is responsible for ensuring the hospice’s clinical practice demonstrates quality, innovative, advanced hospice care delivery to the hospice’s patients and their families. She has extensive experience in hospice clinical operations management.
“We’re pleased and confident that our extensive, interdisciplinary patient care programs and services are in capable hands with the appointment of Ms. Ko as our new vice president for patient care services,” said Diana Franchitto, Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island president/CEO.
Before joining Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island, Ko was chief clinical officer and senior vice president of patient care services for Jacob Perlow Hospice, New York, N.Y., with clinical operations responsibilities across the organization. Before becoming chief clinical officer at Jacob Perlow Hospice, she was the hospice’s director for care in New York’s Brooklyn and Queens boroughs, responsible for quality, productivity, regulatory compliance, growth and consistency of hospice services.
Prior to Jacob Perlow Hospice, she worked as a geriatric nurse practitioner at Lenox Hospital Geriatric Center and Amsterdam Nursing Home, both in New York City. She began her nursing career as a staff nurse at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
Ko’s teaching experience includes being preceptor to New York University nurse practitioner students and Lenox Hill Hospital internal medicine residents.
Ko holds a master’s in nursing in gerontology and health care administration and bachelor’s in nursing from the University of Pennsylvania, where she was a Hillman Scholar, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing member and Genesis Undergraduate Research Project Award recipient. She also received a bachelor’s in genetics from Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas. While at Texas A&M, she was the Southwestern and Rocky Mountain Division research award of honor recipient at the seventy-third annual American Association for the Advancement of Science symposium and exhibition.
