Dr. Edward Martin Accepts Full-Time Position as Chief Medical Officer at Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Edward W. Martin, MD, MPH, of Providence, has accepted a full-time position as Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island’ s chief medical officer. Dr. Martin has served as Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island’s medical director since 1991 in a part-time capacity, and before that, was assistant medical director since 1987. In this new role, he has overall responsibility for the direction of the medical component of Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island’s patient care program.
A fellow of the American College of Physicians, Dr. Martin is board-certified in internal medicine and hospice and palliative care medicine.

In addition to his position at Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island, Dr. Martin is a staff physician at several Providence hospitals, including The Miriam Hospital, Rhode Island Hospital, and Roger Williams Medical Center . He was on the staff of the Eleanor Slater Hospital serving as the Chief of Medical Staff and Clinical Services from 2000- 2008. He served as a member of the Rhode Island Board of Examiners for Nursing Home Administrators.
Dr. Martin presently serves on the National Council of Hospice and Palliative Professionals Physician Section Steering Committee, National Hospital and Palliative Care Organization Regulatory Committee and American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine Business Practices Committee. He is a member of the American Geriatrics Society, American Academy of Hospital and Palliative Medicine and American Society of Addiction Medicine.
A clinical associate professor of medicine at Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, Providence, Dr. Martin received a Teaching Recognition Award for his work with medical students and physicians in training.. He has given nearly 75 presentations on topics within his field of expertise to professional audiences.
In addition, he has served since 1989 as a medical officer in the U.S. Army, U.S. Army Reserve and Rhode Island National Guard, attaining the rank of colonel.
Dr. Martin performed his residency in internal medicine at Strong Memorial Hospital of the University of Rochester Associated Hospitals, Rochester. He received his medical degree, his master’s degree in public health and bachelor’s degree in biology from Brown University. |
